When Bernard Harvey and his son Alastair designed and introduced the game Shipboard in 1999 , at the Westonbirt Arboretum Festival of Wood, little did they realise the impact their hobby would make. As a fascinating introduction into the making of wooden board games, using various inlays, they have now produced their version of Nine Man’s Morris, Solitaire combined with a game called 1 to Win, Mancala, Cribbage boxes and boards. The games are made in a variety of hardwoods, including European Oak, American Red Cherry, Canadian Maple, Black Walnut, Sapele, Mahogany and Rosewood. All the games are made in their small workshop in one of the Deverills in Wiltshire. Whilst still a hobby, the secret of their success is in their innovation and craftsmanship, which resists all temptation to mass produce! |
